The Historic Ca' d'Zan
The Festival is almost here. Soon the performers and production staff will be putting the final touches on their sets, lighting, sound and costumes. Ticket buyers from all over the world will be descending on Sarasota next week to experience world class theatre, dance and music. The Festival, however, is much more than the performances. If you purchase tickets to any event in the Festival, there are several attractions that you can take advantage of at no extra cost.
The Museum of Art
Although many visitors to the Festival will have visited the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Florida State University, it is always worth a stroll through the 21 galleries of fine art and lovely Museum of Art Courtyard. There are hourly guided tours starting at 11 a.m. every day. There are also Special Exhibition Tours. Check the daily tour schedule for more information.
Ca’ d’Zan
The fabled winter residence of John Ringling was created to mirror the glory of Venetian Gothic palaces. Adjacent to Sarasota Bay, this lovely mansion is available for tours and provides a stunning view of the water.
The Circus Museum
Sarasota owes a great debt to the Circus. Sarasota was the winter home of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus from 1927 to 1960. The Circus Museum is the first of its kind to document the history of the American Circus with collections of rare memorabilia, parade wagons, the world’s largest miniature circus and The Wisconsin, John and Mable Ringling’s fully restored personal railroad car.
In The Galleries
On Oct. 14th and 15th, learn from Museum curators and educators about two of the special exhibits that RIAF has going on during the Festival, Rome Wasn’t Built In a Day and and now for Something Completely Different… You can find out more about the times and details by visiting our website.
In The Studio
Sarasota and Manatee Counties are home to rich and varied cultural activities throughout the year. You can find out more about some of these arts organizations and their productions through insightful and provocative lectures. Information about times and location can be found here.

A Great Review For Opening Night by Les SlovaKs Dance Collective
Wednesday, September 15th, 2010Sometimes it is easier to hear what others have said about their experiences when trying to describe something that is hard to describe. Les SlovaKs Dance Collective is a complex and exciting dance company that is rich in layers and creativity, but hard to put into words. Here is what a reviewer said from CultureVulture.net, a wide-ranging selection of arts reviews in a blog format founded in 1998.

Anne Plamondon, co-artistic director of Rubberbandance Group, has been called a “singular dance sensation” (BerkshireFineArts.com, 8/21/09). Her education in classical dance at the National Ballet School of Canada and experience with dance groups in Canada and Europe has prepared Plamondon for an exciting career. She has performed in works of over 30 choreographers such as Jiri Kylian, Ohad Naharin, Paul Lightfoot, Angelin Preljocaj, Johan Inger, Stijn Celis and Itzik Galili, to name a few. Although much of her focus is with Rubberbandance Group, she also works with other groups with entirely different styles and character, displaying enormous versatility and skill. She will be featured along with Victor Quijada and 4 other dancers in Loan Sharking at the Ringling International Arts Festival.

Thank You to All For a Successful Festival
Friday, October 23rd, 2009The inaugural Ringling International Arts Festival was a success—as deemed by all parties—the audience, the community, Festival organizers and the artists themselves– and is in no doubt a reflection of your patronage and support of arts and culture at the Museum and in Sarasota/Manatee Counties.
This success is even more poignant in the face of a poor economic climate. We are happy to share with you that 92% of the tickets were sold and 25 of the 36 performances were sold out and news outlets across the state, country and world took interest in the Festival and Sarasota/Manatee as an arts destination.
The energy and enthusiasm continues and we hope that you support the Museum and arts and culture in the upcoming 2009-2010 season. We’ve had many pleas to bring the Festival back in 2010, a full year earlier than planned. There is no decision on this matter but do let us know what you think.
On behalf of the Ringling International Arts Festival, the Ringling Museum and the Baryshnikov Arts Center, thank you for making this first Festival a sweeping success. We look forward to seeing you at the next Festival!
